“I was with WDP Barnet before I was introduced to AIR Sports Network, I had been an Alcoholic for the last 20 years on and off. About two years ago I started going to WDP and got really good support from them. I was attending different groups but I was really struggling to stop drinking. I really wanted to change my life so I kept going to the boxercise sessions run by AIR, I guess to get that natural buzz, which helped me a lot. I would go home tired and not want to go out for a drink. I haven’t had an alcoholic drink now for quite a while.
Doing the exercises with Tacko was really fun and helped me get a new natural and positive buzz. It also helped with my mental health. I feel very emotional with AIR as they are like my second family.
One of the main things that definitely drove me to keep attending was how comfortable the coach made me feel at the sessions and how motivational he was. The sessions were fun but hard work at the same time, the balance was perfect. It kept me going, showed me there was hope for a better lifestyle and I could start living again. Going to boxercise helped me physically and mentally due to my anxiety by making me more confident. I am also eating healthy now due to the coaches’ advice on dieting which helps me keep fit.
Firstly I would like to keep sober and continue my progress with AIR Sports by getting my confidence and fitness even higher. I am currently studying English at college and would like to enrol on a jewellery making course from April.
AIR Sports has brilliant coaches; friendly, supportive and very motivational, I would like to thank them so much for helping people in our situation and being the bright light at the end of the tunnel. If you need help, then definitely go along.”
