AIR Sports the leading sport for development programme in London & the South East is delighted to announce the launch of its innovative new sports and mentoring programme for IOM individuals currently in prison and nearing the end of their sentence.
Currently delivering IOM (integrated offender management) programmes in 3 of London’s priority Boroughs (Wandsworth, Lambeth, Lewisham) and with plans in place for expansion into other London Boroughs; the new programme is aimed at building a strong foundation by engaging with offenders prior to release in order to start constructing a long term relationship of support and structure. Our aim is to ensure individuals have the best opportunities and encouragement to help them successfully turn their lives around and re-engage positively with their communities. The programme provides offenders with one to one access to AIR’S highly successful education, personal mentoring, personal development and sports coaching programmes.
Colm Whitty, Director of AIR Sports said “Reoffending costs society many millions of pounds each year and in many cases is caused directly by individuals not receiving the support they need to move away from past behaviours, triggers and influences.“
“We will be working with the support of the prisons to link directly with individuals, providing them with support before they leave prison and perhaps more crucially with sustained support immediately on their release. Our aim is to prevent individuals re-offending by providing positive structure, the motivation to achieve and the transferable skills to access new opportunities.”
“This opportunity to work with the hardest to reach in society is fantastic for AIR and is really what AIR is all about; helping those in need to prove to themselves and to society that everyone, regardless of their past has the potential to be a positive and successful member of society.”
